Trasmallo began in 2019 as a space where weaving classes were offered in Isla Fuerte. It soon became a place that brought young people together around weaving and the development of techniques, which they shared with other
community members.
Trasmallo seeks to recognize and value the territory we inhabit and its local and natural resources.

We discovered banana fiber in 2020, during the long quarantine that year, a group of friends gathered together, curious about weaving with natural materials.
We had seen online that the banana tree had very blonde, long, bright fibers.
At that time, we worked to extract them.
We invented tools. Some of these were
unsuccessful attempts.
Through this, we refined the process.
Reconsidering the value we place
on our waste
In our research on finding local,
sustainable materials for our woven pieces,
we discovered the great potential of
household plastic waste.
We took advantage of this potential
by using different techniques to weave
durable bags and purses.
Through this type of weaving, we aim to convey
the message of rethinking the value we place
on our waste. With a bit of knowledge
and creativity, this waste can be transformed
into something beautiful and desirable,
extending its useful life.
During the pandemic, we offered workshops on how
to use plastic water bags and other
packaging materials for weaving.
Most of the pieces developed were bags
and baskets made using the crochet technique.
These objects were resistant and waterproof
due to the plastic, which is perfect
for this type of product.
