An initiative for
conservation

Surrounded by THE SEA,
we discover what joins us together

Eco de Mar is an invitation to immerse yourself in the landscape
that surrounds us when living on an island: the sea.
It is a call for conservation, research
and the recognition of this vital environment.

The sea provides us with food, tourism, and sustenance
but it also faces threats like climate change
and harmful tourism practices.

We believe that through knowledge
and shared experiences of exploring the reefs
and their biodiversity, we can foster a culture of
conservation that protects this ecosystem.

Eco de mar brings together two interconnected projects:

Zenu Underwater Museum MUZIF

The MUSZIF Underwater Museum's mission is to conserve and protect the coral reefs of Isla Fuerte.

Besides offering an alternative diving site, it brings together the pottery traditions of the nearby town of Momil rooted in Zenú culture with reef regeneration, using fired clay sculptures as a substrate for coral growth.

Guardians of the sea

Pedagogy for conservation

"Guardians of the Sea” is the educational program of Eco de Mar, a community initiative on Isla Fuerte that fosters environmental awareness among children and youth.

Through integrative experiences, it promotes appreciation of the natural environment and encourages an active connection with nature.

THE UNDERWATER MUSEUM

Seeing marine
life thrive.

The beauty of the artworks
and the colonization of living organisms
in the marine environment make this setting
a unique and special place.

"Algae, sponges, and hydroids arrived,
giving the final shape to MUSZIF,
which today has 25 submerged pieces
at a depth of about 6 meters.”.

The Process, The union of cultures

The sculptures, created by Pedro Fuentes
and other artisans of pottery tradition from
the nearby town of Momil, pay homage to
the Zenú heritage, an indigenous culture
that inhabited the island in pre-Columbian times.
In this way, art, history, and ecology intertwine,
creating a space where the past and nature
coexist and are strengthened.

GUARDIANS
OF THE SEA

Knowing what we have
to take care of it

Guardians of the Sea is an active project
that holds weekly sessions where
girls and children on the island learn
about species interactions
with the marine biome.
Through workshops at the hotel,
participants prepare for seabed observations
using pedagogical resources such as photography
and coral texture identification
with clay sculptures.

The project, launched in 2019 at our Ecohouse hotel, focused on recognizing the marine ecosystem and the state of coral reefs. It raised awareness about caring for them and created spaces for reflection and transformation.

How can you participate?
